There have indeed, but we're going back years. I think the reason no-one has joined in is that those who needed to transfer AV to DV did so years ago and have either left the forum or can't remember. My own video exploration started 12 years ago and everything was DV by then, already being superseded.

Part of the problem is the solution involves spending a bit of money and people might be circumspect enough to avoid suggesting a solution unless they know it will work for the OP.

FWIW I believe there are capture devices which output to USB, but I seem to recall people having very mixed results from them.

Almost certainly you will want a firewire interface on your PC. I keep an old PC simply in case I ever need to recapture stuff from my old MiniDV tapes.
